One of Jim’s favorite quilt patterns is the Ohio Star, a staple for generations of quilters and the official quilt block of the state of Ohio. The Ohio Star is a 9 patch block with 3 rows of three squares. Four of the squares consist of four quarter triangles. The beauty and endless variety of this pattern comes from the placement and contrast of color within this simple structure. Historically it was extremely popular with the Scottish and Irish immigrants of the Midwest and is found many traditional Amish quilts. Jim is fascinated with this simple yet beautiful pattern and uses it in a number of his most successful pieces. In fact, Jim loves it so much he made it a part of his logo!
