Celebrating 50 Years+ of Hello Kitty

Celebrating 50 Years+ of Hello Kitty

November 1st marks a very special day — Hello Kitty’s birthday! For more than 50 years, this beloved character has brought joy and kindness to people around the world. First introduced by Sanrio in 1974, she quickly became a global icon, inspiring everything from museums and restaurants to video games and fashion. She’s more than just a character — she’s a symbol of friendship, positivity, and the simple joys that bring us together.

What I’ve always admired about Hello Kitty is her personality. She’s energetic, giving, and kind — qualities that reflect her love for family and friends. That’s something I can relate to! Family has always been at the heart of my life and my art, and I think that’s part of the reason I’ve enjoyed creating my new Hello Kitty designs so much.

As an artist, I find her fascinating. Her rounded features, exaggerated proportions, and expressive simplicity remind me of the same visual language I use in my folk art — forms that communicate warmth and heartfelt emotion. Her signature bow and cat ears make her instantly recognizable, and they’ve been fun to recreate in my own style.

Though she turns 51 this year, Hello Kitty remains forever young — a timeless friend to generations. Even animated characters deserve a birthday celebration, and today we honor one of the most enduring and delightful figures in popular culture. Happy Birthday, Hello Kitty!

God Bless,
