Jim Shore's Garfield figurines

Love of Life & Lunch: Garfield by Jim Shore

For almost 50 years one of the first things I’ve done most mornings is check out the ongoing adventures of a certain orange cat. I’m talking about Garfield™, the star of the comic strip created by Jim Davis. Since its debut in 1978, the strip has become part of daily life for millions of readers - including me.

There’s something timeless about Garfield™’s personality. He’s proudly lazy, unapologetically gluttonous, and completely devoted to one of life’s greatest culinary achievements… lasagna. While most of us try to hide our flaws, Garfield™ leans into his. If there’s a nap to be taken, he’s already asleep. If there’s food to be eaten, he’s there. And if it’s Monday… well, Garfield™ would rather just skip it entirely.

And there’s other great characters. Garfield™’s always cheerful canine companion Odie provides the perfect contrast - enthusiastic, loyal, and the likely target of Garfield™’s latest prank. Then there’s their long-suffering owner Jon Arbuckle, who does his best to keep things under control while living with two of the most entertaining pets in comic history.

After reading Garfield™ for so long it’s been a real pleasure to create a new collection inspired by these great characters. Bringing a little bit of Garfield™’s humor, attitude, and love of life (and lunch) into my artwork has been a lot of fun… I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

God Bless,
