Trains

I’ve always been fascinated by trains. As kids, we’d spend summer days by the tracks, counting cars and flattening pennies on the rails. Sometimes we’d even try to race them on our bikes—never a good idea, and of course, we always lost. At night, I’d drift off to the distant sound of a whistle, dreaming of exotic destinations or maybe living the adventurous life of a hobo.

For me, trains were never just transportation from point A to point B. They were like magic carpets, carrying stories of faraway places and fueling the imagination with endless possibilities. That sense of wonder has stayed with me, and it’s no surprise that trains have become one of my favorite subjects in art.

Over the years, I’ve designed trains for all kinds of themes—from the North Pole to birthdays, Disney to Peanuts, Frosty the Snowman to The Grinch. Each car tells its own story, yet connects to the one before, creating a moving tapestry of characters and scenes. My favorite part is imagining what comes next—continuing the journey, adding new surprises along the way. And while I love cabooses, there’s always a little sadness when a particular train set reaches its final car.

This year, one such journey ends with a Merry Christmas caboose, the last car in a train that debuted on QVC six years ago. It’s been a fun ride, and a little nostalgic too. But for fellow train lovers, don’t worry—new ideas are already on the tracks. A gingerbread locomotive is happening, maybe more Grinch… maybe even a Hogwarts Express! All aboard—the adventure continues!

God Bless,
